Our values

  • collaborative

At Second Season Counseling, we believe that you are in charge of your therapy. We work closely with you to determine your goals, hear your concerns, and develop a plan for our time together.

  • Inclusive

We’re passionate about creating a safe space for all identities. We actively pursue anti-racist practice and are LGBTQIA+ affirming, welcoming of neurodiversity, and weight-inclusive. Together we develop tools to navigate your life while celebrating your full self.

  • integrative

we love to nerd-out on therapy! That includes providing pyschoeducation and sharing the “why” behind what we do. We integrate research, wisdom, and tools from a variety of evidence-based therapy models to best meet your needs.

How does Individual Therapy Work?

As licensed therapists, we specialize in treatment that helps our clients recontextualize, process, and reflect on their past in order to live a healthier, more fulfilled life.

Step one

Schedule a consult call

We offer free 15-minute consultation calls to all new clients. We’ll ask you about issues you are currently experiencing and describe our therapeutic style and modalities. If for some reason we determine that it’s not the best match, we’ll always provide referrals and resources to help you move in the right direction.

Step two

Book an intake

Intake sessions are around 53 minutes and cover your entire history. Intakes are more structured than other sessions; we take detailed notes to focus on where you’ve been and the direction you’d like to go. Sharing so much of your history within a short amount of time can feel like a lot, so be sure to schedule some time for self-care following the session.

Step Three

Complete Paperwork

All paperwork and payment methods will be filled out electronically before our first session. It’s a quick process and should take no more than ten minutes. You’ll get a separate email or text with a telehealth link for your sessions.

teletherapy tips

Lighting

Try to position light sources in front of you rather than behind you. Ideally, you should face a window rather than sitting in front of one. If needed, you can set up additional light sources, such as a lamp, in front of you.

Audio

Feel free to use headphones when we talk. This reduces any echo in the audio and increases your sense of privacy. You can also adjust your audio settings to decrease background noise.

Camera

Position your device so I can see you clearly, placing your camera (aka green light) at eye level. The more I can see of you, the better!

pro tip

Hide self-view! If you were going to in-person therapy, you would not be looking into a mirror for 50-minutes straight watching your every move. If you’re anything like us, self-view is majorly distracting (is there something in my teeth?)!
